A man believed to be in possession of a firearm was arrested near St Paul’s Cathedral in London today.
Armed officers detained the man behind shopping centre One New Change around midday today.
A witness to the incident said the suspect was ‘Tasered’ before police ‘retrieved a gun’.
David Krupski, who witnessed the incident, said: ‘We were going out for a team lunch and came across the scene.
‘Armed police has stopped the guy and then tazed him to the ground and retrieved the gun.’
It is not being treated as a terror-related incident at this time.
Officers could be seen outside the capital’s landmark with tourists flocking around.
A police spokesperson said: ‘Following reports of an armed man at St Paul’s Cathedral, we can confirm we’ve arrested a man who we believe to be in possession of a firearm at 12.05pm today.
‘He was detained behind One New Change by armed officers.
They added: ‘There is no indication this incident is terror-related at this time.’
Police are yet to determine whether it was a real gun.
